Bihuwan Festive Gamosa — the gamosa exchanged during Bihu, offered to elders and guests as a mark of respect. This festive Bihuwan is handwoven in white cotton with rich red borders and traditional motifs — xorai offering vessels, dhol drums, peacocks and florals — woven into the cloth on the loom.

The gamosa is Assam's most recognisable cultural symbol: it covers the altar at naamghars, is presented at weddings and Bihu, and has travelled from Assam's villages to global stages. Assam's gamosa received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag in December 2022.

Meet the maker — Karabi Baruah. Karabi is a gamosa artisan and the author of Gamosa: The Textile Traditions of Assam, published by the Research Institute of World's Ancient Traditions Cultures and Heritage — a weaver who has also documented the craft for the world.

What you get: One handwoven festive Bihuwan gamosa in white and red cotton. Made in Assam.

Care: Each piece is handwoven, so colours and minor details may vary slightly. Gentle hand wash separately in cold water with mild detergent. Dry in shade.
